Castration is for the purpose of preventing the male animal from reproducing. It isn't for the animal's safety or cleanliness. Male animals that are not castrated can be domineering, aggressive and may tend to wander off in serach of females. But there are many people with intact males that never have difficulties. But my own personal feelings are that there are enough unwanted pets so Spay or neuter.
