Default Infrastructural Developments in Cochin

The numerous infrastructural developments in Kerala have increased the demand for Kerala apartments . Cochin, the commercial capital of Kerala, is rapidly developing into the main center in Kerala.

A Metro Rail Project which is 25 km long starting from Alwaye, Kalamassery and ending at Pettah is proposed. With the active participation of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) work is expected to commence. The Light Metro which is conceptualized by the DMRC will be taking care of the rush for the next 25 years without any additions. According to consultants, the travel demand on the metro rail will be 0.24 million passenger trips per peak hour. The metro rail is expected to serve about 0.7 million people daily. In the coming years, the areas from Edapally to Aluva in the North and from Vytilla to Petta in the South will probably witness a lot of activity and will become a part of the hi-speed corridor of the Metro.

A plan to construct a new Bus Terminal at Vytilla has been drawn by the GOK in collaboration with the District Authorities to reduce the congestion in the city. It would serve as the termination point for Long Distance buses.

An International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadom, which is an island off the mainland of Cochin City, is proposed by the Dubai Port International. It is an INR 20 million project which will transform Cochin into a Major shipping hub. This project is expected to set the real estate sector in the city on fire and give a spurt to the individual activity. A large number of port related developmental projects are being planned in the Cochin port.
