Here an interesting article I stumbled across on the web a few days ago - might be of interest to a couple of people on here

According to the article hardware is already at that level of a mouse/monkey. I really dont think it will be long before computer hardware can match brain power (and in theory this has been achieved already via parallel computing.)
However, regardless of computer hardware, the much more difficult question is about how to actually program these machines to think (like a human/animal.) Developing the theory and then realising it inside a computer is the real challange - if you can do that then you will be richer than you could imagine!

An interesting question. Well, in certain ways, I'm not sure if a computer will ever fully compensate for the human brain. But then again, I'm sure that in certain ways computers are far superior to the human brain already.

Eventually, maybe 25-50 years from now, there will be robot brains that are comparable to human brains, but it's a stretch, given that we are still understanding the human brain. |

I think it will take at least 10 years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened within 30 years. I've read many press releases and news stories about how fast the technology is improving, so I think we should expect to be surprised.

I think there is a very very important factor here that we seem to be forgetting.... who creates these super computers? Are they not humans with SUPER BRAINS in the first place? hehehe. How can we create something that is equal to our capability? I do not think it will be done. IMHO.
