Default To lower a sports bike...?

To lower a sports bike, is it adjustable stock or is it aftermarket parts?

I'd like to get a gsxr and lower it some. I'm 5'5" so I would like to get a bit better footing. My current bike (a crusier) seat is 27.5 and I fit awsome.

I know that lowering it affects the way it rides and a salesman said it "destroys the way the bike is suppose to ride" but I don't plan to take any high speed turns or track it or anything.

Overall, is it horrible to lower it?
