I have a pet store by my house... It's privately owned and operated by a couple, and they've been in the puppy industry for years, and aparently have connections from around the country. One lady, who's sort of the manager, is the one who selects all the puppies. She says their from breeders, and they look like they are. This lady, and all the other young twenty-something year olds who work the store, seems to know a lot about all the different breeds. She also refuses to sell pups until everyone in the family has met the puppy, the person has enough time for the puppy, etc. I've been there plenty of times and the pups all seem happy. They have a vet that comes around every week, their living conditions seem to be great, and none of the pups are very young. I was told they recieved the pups when they're about 8 to 10 wks, then they keep them in the back until they're sure the pups are healthy and high-quality. None of the pups I've seen are less that 3 mos or so.

generally speaking, pet stores that sell puppies are getting them from bybs and puppy mills. if i was remotely interested in one the dogs, i would definetely ask for the breeder's information, and if what they say is true then they wouldnt have a problem giving it to you. how much are these dogs?
i say most private pet stores are like this b/c i do know a couple in my area alone that sell puppies that they rescue from shelters. every week the owners go to a high kill shelter and rescue as many as he can, and then he sells them for the same price as what he paid. i dont think that is wrong, but the fact is, if these people say they get the dogs from breeders, then they are more than likely bybs. at best, the dogs may be taken care of, but they do not come from any sort of good breeding line or anything like that. so if the dogs are expensive, then you are betetr off going to a shelter and rescuing.

NO, any store that sells puppies is BAD. No good breeder would ever ever sell their pups to a store. I don't care what the lady claims, she's lying. She's getting her puppies from puppy mills and back yard breeders, and is contributing to the overpopulation of pets by supporting those people.

The mere fact that they're selling "Designer" Mutts tells me they are NOT getting them from Reputable Breeders!
I'm sure they'll tell you everything you want to hear, just like any Pet Store. The pups are healthy (OUR Vet says they are), We Don't get them from Puppy Mills (We get them from Back Yard Breeders and BROKERS, but not Mills directly), We'll give you a certificate for a free Vet visit at Our Vet's office (Because we pay him extra money on the side to *say* they're healthy).

Well, if course the puppies come from breeders. What they DO NOT come from is good breeders. They come from puppy mills and/or backyard breeders because NO reputable breeder will ever sell a puppy to any pet store. Reputable breeders screen potential puppy buyers very carefully before placing a puppy in a home. They ask for references. They usually have questionnaires prospective owners fill in.
These puppies may appear healthy, but they're definitely not high quality nor from good breeders. Anyone buying them is supporting puppy mills and backyard breeders.
