A hernia is a tear in the muscle lining that lets the meat (muscle) spill or bulge out so-to-speak. A hernia would most likely have you in excruciating pain. You probably pulled a muscle or perhaps tore a ligament. If you are still in any pain in a couple days see a doctor. If not, remember to stretch really well before you do your track and field stuff.
