Default How do I get local business to donate for cancer benefit?

my friends father found out he has pancreitous cancer and his insurance will not cover the cost of treatment. He has a state job and has worked there for 30+ yrs. I want to help as much as I can. We are holding a pool and poker tourny for him this sunday and just need a little help from business in our area, my ? is how

It might be too late to put donor buisnesses' names on flyers in advance, but it isn't too late to put "special thanks" into brochures handed out at the event itself.

Show plans of a "Special Thanks to Mom and Pop's Grocery" banner that you can put the appropriate business name on for display during the event.

Putting a sign up at the registration table, saying "Thanks to our corporate sponsors" with lists, logos, and so on, may also help the donor business feel as if they are getting some mileage out of the donation.

Aside from these small addenda, thumbs up to the "look them in the eye" advice. He'd get my vote for best answer at this point.
