Default Joomla component problem?

Ok... So I was tasked to revise the joomla component DocMan. And I am a total dum dum to component building. Anyone out there who could help? Where should I start?

Default Hello

He, I am also curious about this post. Exactly the same problem for me. I still have a working version of Gallery 1.4 integrated with Mambo which works great, it just seems to be Joomla with Gallery 1.5.
