Hi,

I think some kind of updation is going on because suddenly my website directory
started appear on the first page of google for keyword website directory. It is strange but i think it is good sign for my site.

Yes, I have read a lot on google recent updations and as you have mentioned page rank of many websites have dropped out and slipped because it seems google sets more tough standards for websites ranking, worthiness. Updation and changes keep going and you must be adept in adapting to these changes to survive these changes. Google is imposing heavy duty competition on websites. This time google has revised its PR algorithm.

Google updates its index data, including backlinks and PageRank, continually and continuously. We only export new backlinks, PageRank, or directory data every three months or so though.
Google also crawls and updates its index every day, so different or more index data usually isn’t an update either.

Toolbar PageRank updates generally happen about 3-4 times per year, but watching and wondering about the next update is a waste of time. The real PageRank of a page is updated constantly, and more importantly, has little impact on your visibility in Google's SERPs. PR these days is more about how often and how deep your site will be crawled.

If you want semi-accurate backlink details from Google, make sure you've signed up for Webmaster Central. The backlink counts in there are updated regularly.
