What are the Alt (Option) and Control (Ctrl) keys for?

CTRL key is used to combine with alphanumeric keys to produce shortcut keys. For example, CTRL + C for copy, CTRL+V for paste, CTRL+X for cut, CTRL+F4 for exiting a window. There are other shortcuts that can be made with CTRL key. The same thing goes true with ALT key. For ALT key, ALT+F4 for exiting a program. You can check the net for other shortcut keys.
