Most external harddrives are just laptop hardrive (2.5'') in a case. You can take the harddrive out and connect it using a SATA wire.

Three things to try....

1) Try the drive on another computer, rule out if the issue is with the drive or cable itself.

2) Double-check that the external drive is not under-powered, meaning it needs external power.

3) Look in Apple System Profiler (under Applications/Utilities), look under USB, and see if the drive hardware is showing; if so, then it's the drive [mechanism] itself is dead but the bridge board is reading ok. You'll have to contact the company for warranty service.

There might be a problem with connector. Not with PC. Better check with logic board or change the case. Then your problem may be solved. Usually, no more problems with connecting any external hard disk to PC expect with logic board of external hard disk. Please let me know if you have any more.

Actually, the IRS gets less information in an e-filed return.

"White paper statements" or attachments are not part of the data that the IRS initially feeds into their system. For example, if you decided to list all of the charitable deductions you had and attached that to your return (or it printed out a statement in your computerized version of the return), that information is not looked at.

Contact a computer engineer to get your problem solved.

HDDs record data by magnetizing ferromagnetic material directionally. Sequential changes in the direction of magnetization represent patterns of binary data bits. The data are read from the disk by detecting the transitions in magnetization and decoding the originally written data. Different encoding schemes, such as Modified Frequency Modulation, group code recording, run-length limited encoding, and others are used.
