I have an HP 5500 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier that has worked brilliantly for years. I have just un-installed and re-installed it, but now everything seems to work except the scanner. A message also appears, stating that I need to download software. Should this not be on the disc?

Hmmm. No no, its not "good" in that situation you describe. It's more of a regional or at best an American colloquialism. I think the best translation to russian would be something like "nu sho" or maybe even "tak" as in the sense of Ukrainian people who like to start sentances with "tak" meaning something like "Yes, now we are going to talk about heating oil".
