I'm interested in starting a home business in which I make natural, organic, fresh home-made food for pets-- something I have experience in doing for years. I would distribute it to local customers. Not expecting to make an empire or anything, more of a personal pet chef, maybe take dogs on walk when I deliver food, etc. Does anyone know if there are food laws and regulations I need to consider? I'd obviously need to have some kind of disclaimer/written agreement between me and clients. Since its the distribution of food for a profit... for pets... are there legal issues I need to look into? Thank you!

Each state (and sometimes county and city/town) have specific laws and regulations that pertain to businesses and more specifically anything having to do with food (yes, even pet food).
Also, if you are producing for resale, there are probably permits that you will need to pull. Call the town/city hall where you live and they should be able to give you some guidance. If you are unfamiliar with the laws, and also want to protect yourself, a good business attorney could be short money.
