SEO is very important, but also important is directing traffic to your site, and creating a site that does not have a high bounce rate, so that the people who visit for the first time stick around for a while and don't just exit the site. Yeah, a good way to think of it is that seo is only part part of the bigger picture, which is trying to direct more traffic to your site.

I think the strengths in seo is that it's a long-term investment, you can read about for free on the web, and it pushes you to learn more about topics that make you a better site owner in general.

I agree. Right, the big picture is to get a lot of visitors--not just visitors who see the site and then immediately leave (bounce), but those who are actually interested in the niche, those who the site is targeted for. Because then when you have your audience, you have your influence, and you start to create your site's own market.

Yeah, I'm reading that it's the best method, along with general traffic building (though it's hard to separate the two), but it is hard work. I'm finding that I need a solid plan and that I really need to follow it so that I'm constantly building upon what I've already done, since seo is a process, not a task.
