Unfortunately article submissions are not going to get you to #1. Google has implemented too many changes lately for it to be that easy to rank highly. You need to focus on the content your site offers the public and how to make it as informative, helpful, and relevant as possible. Imagine that Google is actually a person that can tell which site is the most informative / relevant to the keyword people typed in. Because soon enough the algorithm used by Google is going to be pretty much identical to how humans think - those guys are that smart!!
