Default Funerals finance?

I have come across a few relatives of people that have died that say to me they do not have money to pay for a funeral.
Just out of interest what happens in the UK if the family cannot fund a funeral for their loved one????

The Department of Works and Pensions make a funeral grant but it is basic and meanstested,e.g. they want to ensure that relatives can't pay the funeral costs before they will pay out.
