Why is it that the gov't borrows money from the Feds?

Debt is the problem of our economy. Yet no politician raises the topic on how to solve this. Why does our gov't borrow money from the Feds when we could create it ourselves?
I understand if we created the money ourselves we'd have inflation. Though we already have inflation from the Feds, but on top of inflation from the Feds, now we have debt too. Answers?
