construction client, poweredge 2950.... dual 2.66 xeon, 8gb ddr, 2 74gb 15k sas raid 1, 6 146gb 10k sas in raid5, 1 146gb global hotspare, redundnant psu and rd1000 with 5 tapes.
so got sbs through eopen which was a pain. still dont have all my cals, the jihad brothers keep sending me sbs 03 or ebs cals and the wrong amount. have no idea where to even install the cals in sbs. so review, i like it. just as easy some vista like things annoy me. i like the new folder redirection, however it by defaults make user the primary owner, so i had to log into each box and add the server admin to the permissions. alot of stuff is made easier, have a GUI to share out files and all. exchange 07 is nice, had to do a few things with it (move database and remote limits) easy enough. new remote section is nice, this actually took us 1-2 hours of messing around. for some reason the cert didn't get installed properly for the TS Gateway and we got it the last few minutes. other issue is installing the printers. had to turn off UAC to even install printers, didn't let me install TCP/IP port based printers without error, google said turn off UAC and it worked. installed the printers with the 64bit drivers, tried to install them on 32bit workstations wanted diff drivers (duh). tried to install teh 32bit drivers on the server under Additional Drivers, wouldn't take it kept asking for files on the CD. read a little into this and just installed the printers on the 32bit timberline server. so all in all not bad. took longer then expected (when doesn't it). 5 hours for the office (me and boss). But that was transferring 100-150gb of data, backing up exchange, rejoining machines, yada yada. ESET Nod32 installed fine, running 2.7 on that, xmon as well. o yeah biggest issue. SBS 08 doesn't let you use RD1000 with the built in backup. Only USB/ESATA. So probably will be trying to have veritas upgrade this version of Small Biz version 12 i got to the new 12.5. Got the guy 5 500GB RD1000 tapes, need to find a way to use them. Hope Dell releases a firmware update so it can work properly. all in all cool stuff. goals of tommorrow: threaten poorly spoken english tech support at MS if i dont get the correct cals, that i will murder a camel. try contacting Kyocera and see what we can do about the printer try to sweettalk Symantec for a upgrade to the version 12. |
