Default How do I tell if a router is dead or trouble shoot it

So I am home for thanksgiving. And my parents told me they couldn't get online and they were plugged in directly to the modem.

So after 3 hours I am at a loss.

We have DSL, and PPPoE, both computers are setup to sign in and will when plugged directly into the modem, and router (Gigafast E400-R) is set to PPPoE and has the user name and password.

But neither computer is able to get online when plugged into the router.

Pretty frustrating and time consuming going back and forth and restarting computers and router and modem and getting nowhere.

Anyone know what I can try next?
