Default computer networking problem... plz solve?

hi. at my office one application is working on windows Server 2000 on server and windows XP on client. the client machine is connected with the network and it also giving reply of pinging of Server IP Address & vice versa. but it cannot be access with server means if i try to open my server's shared files through client machine it shows that the client is working off line. i cannot understanding the said problem. could anybody solve these problem or provide better solution of the said prob. immidiately. .... thanx in advance.

eazy use a e-mail service to send files to the other systems

You probaly already checked this but is file and printer sharing enabled on the XP computer.

Are your shares open to everyone? share to everyone to verify the share is working, restrict later if you want.

Open your directory up to everyone also.


You could have a DNS problem. Setup the host file on both the server and the client.
IP clientname
IP servername
Location, if you don't know.
C:\windows\system32\etc\host

when there is network connection we can ping but to share some resources and all you have to gain the access to use or share the resourses
