I currently am dealing with mostly lower level languages such as C++ and Assembly, but I want to find something for quick production and greater portability. I already know the basics of Python, but I was wondering what language other people like best.
I don't need it to have an IDE, but I really only want to use a language that is completely free, as well as works with linux.
I'm kind of aiming for something above Java, especially with memory management. I want to write programs that mainly deal with OS level stuff, but are quick to create.

C and c++ os the best programming language in the Assembly language. I am also working in this platform to making software. The best for the compiling and make simpler coding language is c and c++.

If you want to do Operating system level programming than first of all you have to clear base of C and C++. There is a one programming language called Limbo. I don't have more Idea about Limbo

Like I've said on the previous thread that has the same topic subject as this C/C++ aside from Java can be categorized as high level language.

Hi ! According to me .Net and Java both are higher level programming now a days. Every people wants to make their career in this two fields only because the projects which you are building using this languages have more security.
