I currently am dealing with mostly lower level languages such as C++ and Assembly, but I want to find something for quick production and greater portability. I already know the basics of Python, but I was wondering what language other people like best.
I don't need it to have an IDE, but I really only want to use a language that is completely free, as well as works with linux. I'm kind of aiming for something above Java, especially with memory management. I want to write programs that mainly deal with OS level stuff, but are quick to create. And assembly is actually the only low level language.
