I get a pop up that says it is a default search provider -- do I need...
...something other than ATT&T & YAHOO?? Crawler says it is protection against an unwanted default search provider change??

It sounds as though it has been partially disabled which is why you are getting the error. When you have your browser open click on Tools >> Manage Add-ons and delete it from there.
