Removing URL: overworked and underpaid Google
Matt Cutts has blogged on concerns Google overuse / misuse of the URL removal tool.
It is suggested directory level instead of moving most of the individual URLs. Unfortunately, he does not comment on the wisdom (or not) to use 301 redirects instead of disposal.
