Default one anti-virus at a time.

You never want to use tow anti-virus software's at the same time. All it needs is one bad update. The more security you have the slower your computer will preform.

Yes I agree that it is batter to keep one antivirus in PC.When the matter is about free antivirus I think AVG is the best one.I have AVG virus protection always on and windows XP firewall enabled. Why do I still get infected with some Trojan horses? I check for updates every day so I am sure I am up to date.

Mcafee protect has really improved in the most recent test. So I would not pay much attention to users who bad mouth it. But it is still a ram hog. Next before you install Mcafee update AVG and start your computer in safe mode. Now do a safe mode scan. After that I would download Malwarebytes anti-malware from

The greatest trouble with running two anti viruses is how much it will slow down your computer!

I use one antivirus - AVG - and I back it up with malware detecting software to keep the spyware at bay.

I tried having two antiviruses before - AVG and Norton - and having both of them was a nightmare! One of them would block what the other was doing and in the end, they won't block the virus at all. They keep contradicting each other. I decided to let go of Norton in the end.
