I have an old Gateway 400SD4,512 Ram,60Gb Hdd,running Xp Home updated to SP3.The machine has ran flawlessly for over 5 years until today.
I put the machine in its corner about a week ago and tried to start it this morning and it would not do anything except run the fans. There is not a power problem as the AC and battery both run the machine just fine. After the fans are running there is no shutdown until I shut it down. I tested the Ram in another machine,no problems.I put the hard drive on another machine in an enclosure and it was recognized and ran fine.I ran a disk check on it and that checked out fine. I tried the hard drive in the enclosure in the usb ports and it turned so there is power to the usb ports. The disk player also spun a disk so there is power to the machine throughout. I tried the machine on an external monitor,no help. I do notice when the power button is pushed and the machine runs, there is no light behind the little hdd symbol. Ideas Anyone? Tried reset on bottom of machine to no avail.
