How can I retrieve my files from a laptop (Gateway MA7) which has a blown...
...motherboard? I would like to avoid having to bring it in and having the hard-drive fitted as an external drive but would rather just network it somehow and retrieve the files on the hard drive...any ideas?

you can't network it unless the laptop is booted into an operating system. You need to remove the Laptop hard drive. Then get a laptop to IDE converter, and attach it to a desktop and get the files off.
