Default I need to update my memory for my Gateway Tabor_11 x86 based pc. Processor-X86Family

6model 7stepping3~497Mhz? I am fairly new to the computer world. We inherited a desktop from the in-laws- It is a Gateway.
Model -Tabor_11
Type - x86 based PC
Processor - X86Family6Model7stepping3GenuineIntel~497 Mhz
I don't know what else I need to know-but I do know I need to update the memory with a new card. I also need to update my video card. I don't know if I need to do both or not. I wish to maybe buy from Ebay or something similar but don't know what to buy. Besides just the updates I am doing family history and geneaology- so I need something separate to have it together. wow that sounds confusing! Of course my funds are low so I don't have much to spend. Hopefully someone can give me some direction to go with this. Thank you so much for the time and trouble, Vicki
I don't know how to look for what ram or motherboard. How do you find out such things? I am new and am really clueless.
When I go to GoogleEarth a window says I need to update my video. I bought a JVC video camera last year-it has it's own hard-drive-and should be able to use them sort of together somehow but my desk-top needs to be updated.
