Default IIS WebSite?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and it says i have IIS, and when i check it i press "Apply" it says please wait, then after about 5 or 10 minuets it just dissapears, i look at the settings and it's not checked??? I'm trying to start my own website without the stupid like freewebs.com/whatever

Please Help?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

iis is maybe not the best choice then unless you want to be forever applying security patches to stop naughty hackers.

you can get apache, mysql, php and more in one bundle for free:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

installing and configuring the above is simple and will quickly provide you with all the features you want in a web server: the web server itself, database support, scripting support.

keep in mind though that without a domain name service you will only be able to bring up webpages hosted on your own pc using your ip address and not a domain name www.whatever.com.

Make sure you have expanded all of the checkboxes and have selected all of the IIS options in Add/Remove Programs.
